Updated group & prepaid legal plans rule - reports no longer required

On Nov. 14, 2007, the Wisconsin Supreme Court granted a petition filed by the State Bar seeking certain revisions to the rule on group and prepaid legal services plans, SCR 11.06. One result is that members and plans will no longer need to file annual reports about these plans with the State Bar. The rule changes eliminated the Bar's oversight role as well as the plan registration and member reporting requirements in the rule while still limiting attorney participation to those plans that have certain consumer-friendly features. The Board of Governors voted on Dec. 7, 2007 to approve a request from the Bar's Group & Prepaid Legal Services Committee to dissolve the committee in light of the rule changes.
