The API Lends a Hand in the Big Easy!
During the 2009 API Conference, a handful of conference attendees
gave up their Saturday afternoon to participate in a community service
project benefiting the Beacon of Hope. The project? Painting the inside
of a gym at the Hope United Church that was destroyed during Hurricane
Katrina. Despite the 100 degree temperature, this group never complained
and got the project done! Thanks to everyone who participated in this
event - the bonding between the attendees, the final result and the
smile on the pastor's face made it all worth it!

API Members met with their local representatives to talk about Section 120 while attending the 2007 API Conference that was held in Washington DC this past May. In addition, the Guardian of Justice Awards were presented, in person, to four special elected officials who have played a significant role in our efforts to reinstate Section 120. A Champion of Justice award will be presented to Rep. Charles Rangel, NY, later this summer at his home office in New York.

Why Do Clients Still Worry About Escheat?

Well, first of all, I doubt our clients use or know the term, escheat, but it seems to me they still worry about it! Escheat is a common law doctrine that operates to ensure that property is not left in limbo and ownerless. At common law, and even...
